Internal Server error

Hi all, I’m new here and having an install problem.
After entering the /install/index.php
I’m getting an internal server error notice at the bottom of this post. I think it is related to my confusion about where to install the file -or- it may have something to do with there being a deleted Joomla script on the site.

I have a multiple domain account and I suspect this is where I’m veering off course.
I’ve changed the required permissions to 777 and I’ve tried installing in both the root of the main account and the root of the particular domain.

I’m not sure if I should ask here or my hosting provider. I’ve done some searching and it seems like a problem others have had with other cms programs with multiple domain hosting as well, but can’t find a clear solution.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

I’ve found the two common causes for 500 errors are permission and htaccess related.

Rename your .htaccess file to ht.access or something else and try things again. If the problem still exists then the issue is likely with your permission.

I know some hosts use phpsuexec which requires a permission of 644/755 (files/folder) anything higher (ie 666/777) will cause 500 errors.

Give the above a try and let us know how that works out. If the problem still exists post any error messages you see in your control panel and/or your hosting company.

Thanks for the reply. Changing the permissions to 755 did the trick on my hosting account.

I’m stuck at the assigning a database to the script on both my hosting account and on wampserver 2, but I’m going to revisit the issue when my confidence in my ability to execute the simplest of tasks has been restored.
