Can't get past the database connection page on install

Folks,

I had ver 0.963 working fine - was able to install it easily per the great instructions.

When 1.0 was released, I decided to trash the old install completely and start fresh (my 963 install was a sandbox).

I get to the Database Information page, plug in the database info and click the link to check connection. Nothing happens...

No warning, no error, no nothing, except that the URL changes to http://www.mywebsitenamehere.com/modx100/install/index.php?action=connection#

Running MySQL 5.0.77, php 5.2.9

I opened up all permissions to 777, and even uploaded a second copy of the files. Same stuff.

Any and all feedback is appreciated!

Almost forgot...

Tried Firefox and Chrome to test - same results with either browser.

I also am able to manually connect to the database using phpMyAdmin, and can get to other databases on that server through client apps (Sugar, e.g.)
