How to display child pages in the navigation?

Hi all, im new to ModX and I previously used Joomla! which is a load of crap lol.

This is what im trying to do.

I’ve successfully put in some resourses in the top menu system on the ModX Host template, but when I’ve got child resourses in with the parent resourses, the child resourses don’t show. Like im trying to do this:

Games >> Max Payne 3 >> Game Information

But all it does is this:

Games >> Max Payne 3

So how can I make the child resourses show up?

Welcome to the forums and to one of the best...if not the best CMS!

I suppose you are using Wayfinder for your menu? It has a parameter called &level that determines how deep the menu should go. If you specify &level=`0` or don’t use the parameter at all, Wayfinder will display all levels. If you want to limit the number to say, 3 levels, you would add that to your Wayfinder call, e.g.:



The documents and their parents have to be published in order for them to show. They also have to have their "show in menu" boxes ticked (seen when editing the document). By the way, there is a way to tell Wayfinder to still show in the menu a dcoument who’s "show in menu" box is unticked...but that’s for your homework and another day

I am looking through the attachment for your e-book and its going to be a very long read lol, but I was wondering where in the wayfinder Plugin would I put the code you mentioned above?

And no I haven’t thought of reading through any ModX resourses yet, but if you could give me some links, I would very much appriciated it.

Ye, it is a long read,

By the way, just to get you on the right footing, Wafyinder is a snippet and not a plugin

Secondly, you don’t need to touch the Wayfinder code. What you need to do is "call" the snippet - that’s MODx lingo for triggering the snippet to do something.

So, if you want your menu to appear in all your pages (documents), then the best place is to call Wayfinder in your template. If you want it to appear on a certain page, then you call it in that page. I don’t want to overwhelm you with info but you will find MODx very flexible and that you can even call Wayfinder from within what is called a chunk.

Anyway, back to the call: Call Wayfinder in your template (I assume you want the menu to appear in several documents):



nb: the etc above refers to other parameters you may wish to use. "Unfortunately" you will first have to do some reading on MODx and Wayfinder etc before you can get your hands dirty. It is best to get the basics first (and right) than stumble along. Oh, I assume you are doing all this on a test site and not a live one but am sure you know this
