Help needed with the 'New Weblink' button!

Hi,

I’m quite new to MODx and only use it on a basic level and was wondering what the ’New Weblink’ button on the Site toolbar does? Does it add a Weblink field on the General tab of the Document settings when you’re editing a page?

It creates a ’document’ that is just a link to another page, internal or external.
The new web link will be treated by Modx as a ’document’ so you can have it appear in menus etc.

Ok, thanks. So how do I add a Webink field on the General tab of the Document settings? I’ve taken over the updating of content of a company website and some of the pages (’documents’) have a ’Weblink’ field between the ’Link Attributes’ field and ’Uses Template’ field whereas others have an ’Introtext’ field there. I want to change the ’Introtext’ field to a ’Weblink’ field so I can link the content with another page (document).

You can’t. A document is either a "document" with content, or a "weblink" with a Weblink field for the URL (or document ID to make a URL out of) and no content. If you want a document to simply link to another page, create a new weblink.

True, as far as the Manager and the Document Tree is concerned they are all "documents", but in the database the one is a "document" and the other is a "reference". They are processed differently; see the article I linked to.

In the submenu for the main Site menu, the last item is "New Weblink".

In the menu bar at the top of the document tree, the icon of a chain link with a plus sign is for a new weblink; it’s the fourth icon from the left.
