Hey Guys and Gals, I was very happy to stumble across MODx. After becoming extremely frustrated with joomla, I knew there had to be a better way. I am not a complete noob, but I feel like one. Forgive me if these questions are dumb, I appreciate any comments!

    1. Redirection. So I installed and have MODx, it works, and is installed in Site/modx-1.0.0-rc1 Fair enough. Now, how do I get the site’s main index to point to the index.php that is in the MODx directory to launch, just a simple redirect, a 103, I just am not sure about the right way to do it.

    2. I am using the ModxHost template, and the Search box and button are a little to long to use in the right side area where I want to put it, as it was orig in the banner area. Where would I find the code so I can put the search button Under the search field? I thought maybe a chunk or a snippet, but I can not locate it.

    3. Your opinion.....What would be the best way to implement a mailing list. Something people could sign up for with name, address, e-mail. I was thinking possibly the signup form, because the site won’t be using a login/logout feature, but wasn’t 100% sure. I also thought of just writing something in PHP to track it.

You know, I never realized how much I don’t know about CSS until I installed MODx. Time to hit the books and learn the template system. shocked Thanks again,

    -John

        Thanks Susan for that link!

Anybody got any comment on the redirect, I wouldn’t think I would have to re-install on the Root directory? So you can just visit whatever.com instead of whatever.com/modx-1.0.0-rc1

        Thanks!

Oh, and one last quickie, anyone removed the login id and password box off of the modxhost without it jacking up the rest of the css layout?

I’m not sure that I understand exactly what you mean by "redirect", but you can simply edit the .htaccess file and change the RewriteBase line to point to your subdirectory
          RewriteBase /modx-1.0.0-rc1

Well, Im not quite sure, have not messed with the htaccess. I simply wrote an index.php on the root, and did a header redirect. That may not be the best way. I’ll go learn a bit about the htaccess. Also, I got the login figured out, just had to remove the div.

            Thanks!
