Clearing the cache?

I’m a bit baffled regarding clearing the cache. How often should it be done? How would I know when to do it? Or is it even necessary?

The longer answer is that you want to clear the cache whenever cached material has been changed. If you edit a cached document or change a cached snippet or chunk so that its output changes, visitors won’t see the change until you clear the cache.

It never hurts to clear the cache but generally the only danger of *not* clearing it is that site visitors may see out-of-date material or errors that have been corrected but not cleared from the cache.

I seldom clear the cache manually -- usually only when I change something and the change doesn’t show up on the site when I check.

Thanks to both of you! So, basically I can pretty much leave it alone if I haven’t changed anything or added a new page. Funny thing is, I’m currently in the mode of adding a new page most every day so it sounds like I’ll need to clear it out daily at least.

Normally, the Empty cache checkbox is checked by default on the Page Settings tab of the Create/Edit document screen, which means that the cache will be cleared automatically when you save the new page (or any edited page). So most of the time, you can just stop worrying about the cache.
