FCKEditor Upload: disallowed file type

Hello.
I installed FileDownloadPE snippet in order to upload files and count downloads from my server, but when I go to upload an .EXE file, I get "Disallowed file type" message from FCKEditor Upload dialog.
What could I do to overcome this?

You might want to think again about allowing executable files to be uploaded. If the user zips the file and uploads the zip file, your site will be a lot more secure and you won’t have to change anything.

If you really want to let users upload .exe files, I think you can go to Resources | Manage Resources | plugins | FCKEditor | Configuration and add that type. I’m not sure because I don’t have FCKEditor.

That’s strange...
I don’t have FCKEditor configuration under "Plugins"... I just have TinyMCE. I’m using MODx 0.9.6.3.
I need to upload .exe files because I am the only user at my website and I need to distribute my software.

That’s because the resource browser, MCPuk, was originally intended to be integrated with the FCKEditor. It works just fine in TinyMCE, as well as in the image and file input type TVs or anywhere else it’s used.

I’ll repeat and emphasize ... allowing .exe (or any executable files, such as .php) filetypes to be uploaded is a Really Bad Idea.

To whom are you distributing your software? Certainly not to me! Anybody who downloads auto-executable files is an idiot. And getting offended over that statement would be like getting offended if a child refuses to come to your car to look at your puppies. Sure, most people aren’t child molesters and I’m sure you’re not, but we still teach our children not to do things like that. Likewise while I’m sure you’re not an Evil Hacker trying to sucker me into installing a keylogging trojan, I just don’t download anything that’s going to install or unzip itself.

I would like to migrate from Drupal to ModX but I think I’ll stick with Drupal or, maybe, I’ll go with Joomla in order to distribute the setup executable to the millions of "idiots" out there.
I already told that I AM THE ONLY ONE THAT CAN UPLOAD EXE FILES, because I am the developer, the admin and the webmaster at www.zipgenius.com and www.zipgenius.it

We got off to a bad start here....it doesn’t occur often . Mateo, sorry you took offense but I’d like to urge you not to give up on this great CMS on account of this. I believe sottwell didn’t mean any harm.

If you stay, you will actually find one of our strongest points is the community (I know, irony?). All the best and hoping you stay!

I understand that you want to warn the average user about the risk to allow the upload of exe files.
Anyway, I found that uploading the exe files through FTP and putting thet relative path in the File TV of FileDownloadPE works like a charm.
If someone could tell how to enable EXE upload in the file upload dialog, it would be really useful to me.

There’s an individual file types field in the User tab of your manager user. It’s probably either blank, or the Use System Defaults box is checked. Clearing the checkbox and putting the file types (no dot, just exe,pdf,txt etc) you want your user to be able to upload should do the trick.

For the system default, I don’t find where this setting (for files) is in the Configuration, but it is in the database; you could just add exe to the list of file types in the database system_settings table.
