Is there a debugging feature/function for Modx?

Something to either show or log what’s not working in a snippet, plugin etc.

Not really, though in 2.0 (Revolution) there are some API functions developers can use to log messages to various targets (i.e. file or database or echo’d to the page). But it’s really all up to the component developers in 0.9.x/1.0 (Evolution).

You can still change your PHP error settings though; it may be hiding errors from you. There is also the MODx event log, which also can capture errors in components in Evolution. But the most efficient and effective debugging I know in PHP is using var_dump followed by die() a lot to inspect certain variables at various places in the script.
