Hi all,
i’m pretty new to modx, but enjoying to work with it. I like the ’clean’ setup of Modx very much. Good work people!
There is one thing i’m struggling with. Have been looking around, but havent found an answer yet.
I would like to give a user document edit rights via quickedit, but no manager access... Can this be done? (Quickedit gives a very simple interface, that is what some people want and need... I’m running 0.9.6.3, have configured a user group "webeditors" and added a user to this group.
Group is setup only to edit, save, publish documents. *And* to run modules to allow quickedit to work. (found that one in another post).
Things that are unclear for me:
- In the role manager some options under ’general’ are greyed out, I cannot find out why, or if this something todo with it...
- At the user-manager, there is an option to disable "Manager Interface Access". I tried this, but this one will not stay on ’No’, it will go back to Yes, when saving... User can still go to the manager.
Now my questions:
- Can i achieve giving editing rights to a user, but disallowing manager access?
- Am I doing something wrong here?
- If not possible, is this functionality considered for new versions? I encountered other people who would like to do a similar thing....

IIRC, there used to be a snippet around here somewhere that logged a user into the front and back end simultaneously so QuickEdit would work in the front end and the user wouldn’t know they are also a "manager." Unfortunately, I can’t remember the name of the snippet or how well it worked.

you could setup a manager user, the role that the user is assigned to should allow him to run modules and edit documents and finally you go to Manager User -> Manager Login Startup -> type in the id of the document, the user should be redirected to after logging in. so when he logs in, he will see the frontend + quickedit, he would be still able to access the manager by typing ’manager’ in the url though...

In general, IMHO it might make sense to split ’portal managers’ from ’content editors’ in the user-architecture. (just like separating managers from webusers...) This would make the system even more usable for developping parties...

I have used it in some of my sites, and it works. atleast in 096x it works.

Note that in MODx 2.0 Revolution (now in Beta), there’s no distinction between Manager and Web users and you have excellent control over what any user can and can’t see and access.
