Quick Edit Basics Help

When I first started using Modx i disabled Quickedit ’cos it was dammed annoying when I was trying to check out layouts and other things while building a site.

Now that I have several up and running I’ve discovered how useful it is for just managing content, and especially for the clients.

However, I feel like a newbie all over again as I only understand it a little.

So basic question: How do i get it to edit my sidemenus etc which are currently in chunks?

IE: {{sidemenu}}

Can I even do that? If I understand the instruction correctly I have to turn those into TV’s and then put the #* around them.

Can someone just provide an example and a little more info than what’s in the Quickedit doc?

You are correct. To make blocks of content editable via QE you need to have them as TVs with the [*#...*] syntax.

Perhaps I should explain a bit clearer.

I don’t wnat individual TVs that are editable per document.

I want to edit the chunk via Quickedit.

If I put it in a TV then it gets attached to the document.

Hmm? That’’s probably not that clear.

Let’s try again.

If I have a side panel full of say text and some links, and that panel is common to all pages, Normally this would be a chunk.

However, I want that panel (chunk) to also be editable via Quickedit. If I create a TV it gets tacked on at the bottom of the doc in the manager.

Is the content in this then unique to each document, or if I edit one, are those changes then carried on to all the other documents?

The bottom line is, chunks are not editable via QuickEdit.  QuckEdit is for editing the content and other page-specific elements (title, etc) of the page being viewed. That’s why it’s called QuickEdit.

What I want to know is if there is a way to edit an additional element (a box, side panel or call it whatever, and that is common to a group of pages) from the front end, whether that be thru quickedit or something else.

It would just make things easier for clients to do it that way, rather than go thru the Manager.
