installing modx

Hello there,
I am quite new to Modx and I am trying to install in on my laptop. I have already successfully installed apache, integrated with PHP an installed mysql.
I have copied all modx files in the root folder in my case C:\www\site and I am following the instructions from Modx documentation to install
Basically I am supposed to open the browser and enter the following http://yoursite/install/index.php. I understand that I have to replace yoursite with the name of my site. When I replace it with localhost and press enter, I get 3 lines of PHP and number flashing. It goes on for a long time. That does not seem right to me, however my knowledge about this is very limited. Any idea if I am doing something wrong.
Any help would be appreciated

This sounds like an issue with Windows and its webserver... I avoid Windows whenever humanly possible, but maybe you can test your internal website WITHOUT using MODx first... just try to see if you can visit a default page, or a simple "Hello World" HTML page. It’s possible that your webserver is working, but maybe PHP or MySQL is not. It can be complicated to get your desktop properly configured as a server.

For what it’s worth, I’ve found it MUCH easier to install MODx on hosted servers -- that way you let someone else get the server up and running and configured correctly. I’ve worked with MODx a lot, and I still find it difficult to install it locally on my desktop machine.

Try just entering your http://localhost and see what happens. I use wampserver for windows, so my setup is slightly different.
