How to add the same TV data to all pages that use the same template

Any help/direction with this would be greatly appreciated.

I presumed that template variables were "template wide" and not specific to each document - that is, I thought that if I changed the data in a template variable in one page then it would update the template variable in all the other pages using the same template with the same data. Obviously that’s not how it works.

So, for example, I may have a template "additional pages" with an image template variable - what I want is for the client to be able to update the image (using the QuickEdit) in one page that uses the "additional pages" template, and then for the same image to automatically appear in all the pages that use the same template.

Would TV based chunks be the most appropriate method to use for this situation (http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Create_TV-Based_Chunks), or have a missed something a little more obvious?

Template Variables have a default value field that will be it, if you don’t change it. In the input option field
you can use || as delimiter for other pre-set options (dropdown).

TV’s work as extra fields for your docs. If it’s images and static html "chunks" of content you want to use, then use _chunks_ and call them by this placeholder: {{mychunk}} in your template.

Use the @INHERIT binding as the default value. This will pass the value to all children that have the same TV. This will only work for children, to do non child documents you may need to build a plugin.

I think @INHERIT is my only option - in my document tree the children unfortunately don’t all share the same template as their parent, so I will have to re-organize my document tree and navigation/menu set-ups.

Yep, @INHERIT worked a treat - for the documents using a different template I placed them outside the tree and used a Weblink to bring them back into the menu. Thanks again.
