I went through the installation. The database connection and creation of the database went fine.
I marked all the check boxes and clicked install...
Then the installation suddenly went back to the "Welcome to the MODx installation program."
And when I check the link to the manager (mydomain.com/manager), I get these errors:

Could not load DBAPI class.
What can i do? Some files missing?
Yes I would check those directories and make sure those files exist. The first time I installed MODx a quite a few files didn’t go for the ride. I had similar error messages, but once I tracked down the directory in question I noticed files missing.
