Here’s my installation experience so far...
I create my DB and I create my user...done.
Open install/index.php and click Next and I Agree until something relevant pops up.
OH! Here we are.
Connection Information
This looks relevant. Let’s see what we’ve got...
First fieldset of the form. It asks for host, login and pass. Fine. I enter those in. Hey, there’s a link after the fieldset that reads:
"Click here to test your server connection and get the available collations"
I’m no DBA so the mention of collations mystifies me, but it sounds official and I know it needs to connect somehow, so... *click*
....nothing happens. Okay, everything must be working fine. I move on.
Next fieldset asks for db name, table prefix, connect method and collation. I enter them in. Presto, there’s
another link.
"Click here to create your database or to test the selection of your database"
I do know this bit well enough... *click*
And, surprise, a message is returned!
Checking database: passed - database selected
Woo hoo. Well, I guess I know what that first link was supposed to do. But no worries, if I’ve successfully passed the db check, there shouldn’t be any problems going through with the installation. The last fieldset is all admin details, so I plug those in.
I click "Next"
An alert box pops up, reading: "You need to test your server connection!"
Here’s what I say: "No, I bloody don’t."
MODx doesn’t care. It won’t let me move forward until I somehow make an non-working and irrelevant function work. I’ve tried this in Firefox, Safari, and IE7.
Any ideas?
