activated FURLs, manager stopped working

In the manager I activated Friendly Urls.
I renamed the ht.access file in /modx directory to .htaccess and edited it so it looks like this:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /modx
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ index.php?q=$1 [L,QSA]

I also renamed the ht.access file in /modx/manager to .htaccess

using modx 0.9.6.3, this should be all I need to do, according to the wiki article http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php?title=Friendly_URLs_Guide

And it works when browsing the site. But now the manager doesn’t work anymore. I can log in and out and it loads the start page (modx news, etc.) but nothing else works... if I click anything, like ’resources’, nothing happens. Also, the message ’Please wait while MODx loads the page...’ doesn’t disappear.

Did I do something wrong?

Did you make sure your server supports mod_rewrite directives in .htaccess?

Not really. I figured, since the site works with friendly URLs (e.g. /about.html), mod_rewrite should work. Is that not correct?

I’ve never renamed the Manager ht.access file to .htaccess when enabling FURL, should that be done?

I dunno, since it said so in the article, I did... gonna try renaming again
