No Response to Test Server Connection

I’m trying to install Modx on a test server. I have created a modx database with user admin in MySQL. When I enter the server connection info on the Connection Information page, nothing seems to happen. For Database host I use localhost. For user and pass I use the information I entered in mysql when I created the admin user. Any suggestions?

Usually "localhost" is a defacto, but its possible that your host uses an IP to the separate database server. Please consult with your host about it.

So, when you press the ’test connection’ button are you saying you get no feedback at all? Nothing on the screen to say whether the connection worked or not?.
I’ve seen this before when the PHP mysql extensions are not installed, you should get something in your error log here though.

Something does happen. The dropdown box next to Collation disappears.

Good thought. I did not have the php-mysql package installed. But installing it has made no difference. Which logs are you referring to?

Can you think of anything else? Are there any other php requirements?

Ok, I’m past this now I have anther problem. Two files having problems with permissions. I can’t seem to fix this. I’ve set them to write for group and other, even changed ownership to the web user but nothing seems to work.
Checking if assets/cache/siteCache.idx.php file is writable: FAILED!

i guess you have actually to give the permissions to the physical file/folder on your webspace. You need to change these settings with your FTP-Programm, probably by right-clicking on the folder/file and set the right permissions

Note to *nix users: When you have put the unzipped files and folders in your website, make sure that the /assets/cache (and its files), /assets/export and /assets/images folders are world-writeable (777). You also may need to create an empty file in the manager/includes directory named config.inc.php and make it world-writable. After the installation is completed, change the permissions on that file to read-only.

this error isn’t related to webuser-groups etc.
