I really need some help. This is my current web site that I built using Rapidweaver for the Mac. What I basically want to do is be able to modify and work on my site from anywhere. I would love this kind of flexibility. When I say I am a newbie, I mean your everyday person who is looking for a relatively simple and user friendly solution.

There are so many CMS’s out there that it looks so daunting. If you are a coder or programmer, it’s not so bad but when you are trying find an answer that will work for you, I find at least for me, it gets frustrating.

What I would like to do is easily bring my web site into a CMS without having to learn the equivalent of a War and Peace novel for coders (am I making any sense?)

I tried following Mary’s tutorial on ModX but got lost throughout the sessions. Right now I am trying Wordpress but am still finding it rather difficult.

Here is my current web site. I hope that there is someone out there that can help me out in achieving my goals. I would really appreciate it!!

    Sincerely,

    Randy

Randy it is not clear as to what you wish to accomplish or in what areas your difficulties lie. I get the sense that if you are having troubles in Wordpress it is with the templating side of your site. If so MODx should be far more simple but not without a learning curve.

If you have specific areas where you need help, let us know and we can provide some tips and feedback for those and help get you some small wins so that you can take the next steps.

      Cheers,

      Jay

The first thing you need to do is design your site using basic html. Then in the manager page go to Elements --> Manage Elelements. Then look at the Template there. I think the first one that is installed is Minimal Template. Start with editing that template. You will see the basic MODX code.

I made some introductory videos for MODx that could be useful to you -- I think they would help you understand the role that a CMS plays, even if you choose to use WordPress or some other CMS, the concepts should help you understand what’s going on:
