What's the difference between [! and [[?

We’ve noticed that some snippets weren’t working on some apps and after many hours of digging, and debugging it usually ended up as being a case of replacing [! with [[ or vice versa.

What’s the difference between them?

with [! !] the snippet-call won’t be cached.

There is also a difference in regard to te order that they get processes, The [! !] snippets will get parsed on the first pass and the [[ on the second (if there is a need for two passes). That is why you need to alternate when embedding snippets in other snippets.

Actually, this is because the parser uses regular expressions to match and cannot handle nested expressions.
