Interpage links (or links to sections on the same page)

In general, to do an interpage link, my understanding is the format is basically:
<a href="#later_section">click me</a>
[ ...
More page stuff here
...]

<div name="later_section">The place to be</div>

When running modx, if I try this, the href gets mangled to something of the form:
http://thesite.com/index.php?id=100#later_section

Do I need to be using friendly urls to accomplish this, or is there a trick I am ignorant of.

I looked at the article, and it looks to me like it renders exactly the output I am seeing (which does not move me to the correct place on my page).

Any other ideas? Am I being dense about something?

I have friendly url on but if I call a doc with anchor the "index.php?id=" way it works.

What browser have u tried on? IE 8 beta gives me problem with anchors.

There are a few plugins that resolve this issue. AnchorsAway is one I have used before. (just noticed the previous link has already been provided)

Also I am wondering if you need to use id="later_section" rather than name="" depending on the doctype.
