Should I Wait for Revolution?

Hello there,

Okay, so I’ve spent the weekend scanning, skimming and actually reading all over ModX. My web host is upgrading my virtual server to MySQL5 and PHP5 (not the flakey version of the latter). Since I’m a brand new beginner at ModX, my questions are these:

1. Should I wait for the release of Revolution before downloading and installing ModX?

2. Or, should I install the current version since all of the help documentation, current user familiarity, and current forum Q&As relate to it?

You could do both!
I’d suggest the Evolution branch to start, unless you have a specific goal that would need Revolution.
As you say most of the current community is mainly using Evolution.

Thank you for the speedy reply, Bunk. I like your site (the fisheye menu is fun to play with!) and especially like your work for Ruth Lyne and GlassMonkey. So, even though I’m a beginner and will be customizing, you don’t think it will be difficult for me to upgrade my sites in progress to the new version of ModX when it’s released shortly?

If you’re not a proficient with PHP, I’d probably tend to avoid anything in alpha (that means Revolution). You will be able to upgrade once it’s a bit further along.

Understood, and you guessed right: I am not a PHP programmer, though I’ve had to unravel some spaghetti code a time or two. Thank you for the good advice. I’m downloading and installing Evolution today (If my host is finished with the HPP and MySQL update). So, when will Revolution be released?

Evo isn’t out yet either but 0962 is. 0963 will be released shortly, just working through some final install and upgrade issues with setting DB collations and charsets. I’d suggest grabbing it out of SVN honestly and seeing if that works for you.
