I’m not sure where this question should go, but searching the forums (via Google wink ) suggests this might be an okay place ...

I had MODx running under XAMPP on an external harddisk attached to an XP-based laptop. Everything was running just fine. Then the laptop died. Got a new laptop (Vista) and did a new install of XAMPP. Set up a test site with MODX and everything is working fine.

Now I’d like to figure out how to get back to the old work that I was doing that still lives on the harddisk. Obviously, copying the subdirectory under "assets" that is associated with the old work is not a problem. But how do I get to the old mysql databases?

I’m not that familiar with the innards of Apache/MySQL but can get around config files and phpmyadmin. Has anyone managed to pull this off or can they point me to a "how to" resource?

    Thanks in advance,
    Matt

The short answer is to use PhpMyAdmin to go into the old DB and "export" the database to an .SQL file, then "import" it into the new site.

You’d need to be using the exact same version of MODx on both and it would be best if the character encoding of all tables and fields matched.
