I am unable to edit ANY templates I’ve created, or even create any new ones. When I click on the template to edit, it loads the info and allows editing in the fields - but when I click save (and close or and continue), I’m redirected back to the login screen. When I check the template for the change (after re-loggining in), it has not taken it.

What is up? I’ve not changed any settings? Worked fine last week.

Any ideas? I can give u/p creds to a reputable member her for testing.

The most likely cause is a problem with sessions. Any time the current session is lost, you end up at the login screen.

Can you save resources and other elements without getting logged out?

Anything relevant in the MODx or Apache error logs?

What version of MODx are you using?

What kind of server are you on?

Thanks for the quick reply BobRay.

yes. other resources save fine - except I am not able to disable the "content history" plugin. Set up a short while ago. When I try to edit or disable it I am booted to the login again. I am able to create a new plugin and save it with no issues.

shows no error logs in the admin panel. This where I should check for them?

What version of MODx are you using?
        Latest EVO

What kind of server are you on?
        Linux

Based on others with a similar problem, it could be mod_security that’s messing you up. Mod_security has a problem with the way templates are saved but not other elements.

Thanks. Trying - my host need to allow me to place those htaccess changes, though, since they’re security related.

The wiki page, though, mentioned 403 page errors, which is not what I’m getting. And would it work one day, then stop the next?

It would if the host changed the mod_security setting. wink

The odds are good that your host has changed *something*. It’s possible, but very unlikely, that you made a change that would stop templates from saving.

PS: You might want to consider a new host. I would never stay with a host that didn’t let me edit .htaccess and php.ini at will and made changes that broke my site without notifying me ahead of time.

Got the support involved. I know I have access, but any changes I’m doing to the htaccess give an Internal Server Error on the site. Host support says editing it should be no problem, so I’m waiting to hear back about why it appears to be.

It’s common for things to be set up so that php directives in the .htaccess file give a 500 error. In that case, you have to modify (or create) php.ini instead.
