RESOLVED{ How the Hell do I add Meta Data

I’ve tried it on both the latest versions of Firefox and IE.

I’m running it on my local host using wamp.

(I also have a version installed on a live server, although I’m not using it for anything at the moment.)

It’s a moot point anyway, as the two short lines of code for TV’s I mentioned earlier do exactly what I want.

And as you say, it’s infinitely more productive to use TVs.

Let me make it clear, I want to add custom meta tags as well as keywords to each page, and I don’t think the Manage meta tags option allows you to do that.

All it seems to do is only allow you to add keywords from a previously populated list, and nothing else.

Am I wrong?

Nope, you’re not wrong at all. I personally can’t stand the silly things, have never used them, and can’t wait to deprecate them ... just legacy baggage.

Okay now I’ll chime in. The meta keywords thing is useless as coffee flavoured paint so having an entire (and broken) interface to insert them into the head of your site is a certain waste of time and space.

<mini-rant>I’ll get chastised for saying meta keywords are useless but if you factor time spent in placing them to the return from the scintilla of potential difference in the long-tail search engines (other than the big 4) it is just a big waste of time resources.</mini-rant>

The only reason I still include a meta keywords tag in any of our sites is because clients refuse to believe that they’re a complete waste of time. They’re constantly getting approached by snake-oil salesmen who tell them that for only $599 they can optimize their site by adding top secret keywords. I find that it saves me time to be able to tell clients, "Meta keywords are completely useless, but you have them anyway since they don’t hurt anything - but I did mention that they’re useless, right?"

I haven’t used the integrated MODx keywords system since my Etomite days, however (and that was a long time ago). It was always cumbersome, and a TV does the same thing much more efficiently. I add all the meta tags using a simple snippet, so I agree that the whole meta tag system is legacy bloat that will not be missed.
