    I have a client whose site is currently using MODx 0.9.6.2. They need me to do some design updates, etc. on the site, but cannot (due to privacy & firewall issues) allow me access to their web server. SO, they’ve backed up their DB via MODx manager and zipped everything else and emailed it to me to install on my server, do the changes, and then I’ll travel to their physical server and re-install things there.

    Among my tasks is to upgrade their site to Evolution 1.0, but the sql file they sent me only has 6 tables:
    * modx_active_users
    * modx_categories
    * modx_documentgroup_names
    * modx_document_groups
    * modx_event_log
    * modx_keyword_xref

    So - my question is this: What is the best process for doing this?

    Should I:

    • Install 1.0 on my server and import their DB backup (would that even work?)
    • Install 0.9.6.2, import their DB backup & THEN upgrade to 1.0?
    • Another option?

    Thanks in advance for any help. I’m a bit new to MODx, and still learning the ropes after using Joomla for xx years.

      Evo 1.0 comes with a built-in upgrade mechnaism. Once you’ve backed up the database and any custom files like images and style sheets. you should download the RC, upload it to the server and follow the instructions. You should choose upgrade from th install type menu.

      You should start by check the documentation for more on this.

        You’ll need more tables (preferably all of them - about 47 tables).

        You don’t have the templates, the template variables, or the site_content among other things so there’s no way for you to even see their site as it exists now, much less modify it.

        BTW, you’ll want 1.0.1 rather than 1.0.
