I notice that in 9.6.3 using the URL:

    www.mysite.co.uk/my-alias.html

    is fine, but using

    www.mysite.co.uk/25.html

does not work - it produces a 404 error.

Is this a known issue? Have looked but can’t find anything.

    Many thanks.

      Hi,

And if you try www.mysite.co.uk/index.php?id=25 ?

Or did you think 25 as alias name?

        Works as your example.

I’m not using 25 as the alias - just trying to enter URL by doc id.

If document has an alias present, referring to it via /25.html wont work.

Yes Zi - exactly but when did it stop working and why?

It completely breaks the idea of blogs using Newspublisher / Ditto.

Not at all. If there is no alias, then the document ID is used. Unless, of course, you have the site Configuration option "Automatically generate URL alias" set to Yes...

I have automatic alias set to yes and I realise that that is the problem. But having an alias didn’t used to affect whether you could navigate to a document using its id. I have older installations where it worked fine and where aliases are present.

I think in the newer releases there is some change in the url handling and IIRC it prevents duplicate content thing by utilizing only 1 possible alias. Though you still can reach the page by using /index.php?id=25

I was talking to chrisandy about this earlier.
It may have helped with the "duplicate content" issue, but previously you could use the SEO Strict plugin and gracefully redirect to the correct page rather than the 404 page. It seems to over-ride the SEO strict method. Also as Chris says it has broken NewsPublisher in it’s current form, which by default attempts to send you to the *id*.html of the new document, which of course causes a 404.

I think this may be a configuration issue. I don’t think any handling of FURLs has changed.

If you have FURLs on and Friendly Aliases off, or Friendly Aliases on but no aliases for your docs, I think what you’re describing works in any version of MODx. I could be wrong.
