how to install a mod?

i downloaded MaxiGallery_0.5.2

documentation says..

Extract the contents of the zip file to your computer
FTP to your server an go to the modx installation folder
Put the extracted assets folder to the site root and the files will go to correct place
Make the assets/galleries/ folder writable (CHMOD 777 unless you are in phpSuExec environment, in that case CHMOD 755)
Close your FTP program and go to the MODx manager
Create a new snippet called MaxiGallery and paste the contents of maxigallery.txt to it
Call the snippet on some document with the parameters you want
Go to the page that has the snippet call and you should see Manage pictures -button in there.
note that you must be logged into the manager and have rights to edit the document (unless you have defined webusers/groups who can manage the gallery and you are logged in at front-end)
Upload some images to the gallery and see the results. (You may have to logout from the manager in order to see working embedded - slidebox or lightbox - galleries.)

i extracted..
there is a folder called "assets"
two text files called changelog and maxigallery
as per documentation.. Put the extracted assets folder to the site root and the files will go to correct place how can i put them in root folder as there is already a folder called "assets"

i have not installed any module earlier..

it will simply put any different files in place, leaving the existing ones there.

come on guys.. how can i place a folder called assets in the root directory if there is already a folder called assets there..

should i replace the directory?

THIS REALLY SUCKS.. NAME ANY OTHER CMS THAT GIVES SUCH A LONG INSTRUCTION JUST TO INSTALL A MODULE

any body with commonsense please answer..

1. Get /assets/galleries/ from zip archive, upload to the /assets/ directory on your server. Change permissions as required.
2. Grab /assets/snippets/maxigallery/ and upload to /assets/snippets/.

I’m always a little worried by concept of merging directories (I don’t even know if my FTP client does this) so this is the route I would have taken.

In addition to OpenGeek’s comments about rules and decorum, it also sounds as though you lack a fundamental understanding of file structures and webservers. MODx is not necessarily the best solution for individuals who don’t have some basic understanding that if you copy an folder called /assets/snipppets/maxigallery to a root with an /assets gallery that it will just add the contents into the /assets gallery.

I hope that you can get MODx working but I also hope that you find that asking nicely and being polite is the fastest way to the end.
