Brand New User

Hi,

I have just installed ,odx on my site, but I am a total noob !

Could anybody point me in the right direction of some basic tutorials etc ?

I am not familiar with html either so I’m looking for the most basic stuff out there.

Hi Lyspy - I’m not sure if MODx is right for you, if you’re not even familiar with html.

MODx is probably one of the best programs. If you don’t want to learn html/css, then you need either to hire somebody to setup MODx for you, or you’re limited to the default templates. And I guess that’s more or less the same with any CMS out there. So it really all depends on what you want to do.

I’m also a Noob ,but here is my 2 cents.
There is a learning curve with any CMS thats opensource (probably with any CMS)
Get ready to learn something (it might as well be html/css)!

Google for "free css templates"->find one you like->strip any sample content from it.(leave the html)
Then start adding pieces of modx calls.

Make sure to grab Firefox and the plugin Firebug.

If you decide modx isn’t for you? You still have the html/css knowledge to carry to the next CMS
you might use.
My only concern with modx is the lack of forum plugins. SMF if awesome but it seems they don’t have a bridge
on their site for modx . I admit i haven’t dugg very deep for an answer to this concern.

There are also a ton of ready-made templates in the download section (Resources link at the top of this page).

But if you’re serious about managing a website, you really need to learn HTML and CSS, at the very least. You’ll probably end up learning SQL and PHP after a while.

That’s pretty much how I did it; I started with raw HTML (thanks, Joe Barta!) It’s taken me a few years to get to this point, but then I was a grandmother several times over when I started, so I ’m sure you’ll do just fine
