A very noobish question: How to make a page the start page?

I have looked at the page properties I can edit in the General and the Document Settings tabs when editing a page. Doing this with the home (or start) page of the example page that came with 0.9.6, I haven’t found the property that determines that it will displayed as my start page. Chances are I have just overlooked it, or not recognized it.

I have inserted a new page into the document tree that I intended to be my new start page. I have tried to sort the document tree by menu index and moved the new page to the top. That didn’t help. Looking again at the editable page properties didn’t, either.

So even though this is a truly noobish question, I decide to post it here! How can I tell ModX that "this page is to be the new start page"?

There’s a hell of a lot more that I don’t understand, but that’s to come later...

Look for "Site start:" in Tools -> Configuration -> Site.

You can also use that section in the Site Configuration to create a custom error and unauthorised page too. Very useful!

To MODx developers -

Perhaps a useful feature might be to have "Set as Start/Error/Unauthorised Page" in the context menu of the document tree, visible only if the user is authorised to change the site configuration? Or perhaps add another Role that allows users to change these 3 settings?

I dont think so if someone changes the start page every other day. .. it will add un-necessary load into doc tree, and setting it in site config isnt too deep/difficult either

Indeed. The site’s start page is something that should be a bit awkward to set, so it isn’t all that easy to accidentally change it!
