What am I missing?

I’m new to MODx, but I’m running several installations of other CMS software on the same server (Joomla, Xoops, Drupal), and I’m not having any problems with them. It’s all pretty straight forward with PHP 5.2.3 and MySQL 5.0.27 and plenty of memory. I use both IE7 and Firefox browsers.

It must be something I’m missing in the MODx configuration, but I can’t figure out what it is... Everything (almost) installs fine and it seems to be working, but I can only see 2 panels in my Manager, and the documentation says it should be 3.

Also I do not get the option "Create folder here" in the shortcuts, as shown in the documentation page http://www.modxcms.com/editor-manager.html

There is nothing in my manager that refers to "Content" or "Categories", but in the manual on this page http://www.modxhost.com/index.php?q=8.html there is a nice picure of a tab saying "Content" right after the tab named "Site".

I would really like to have these options, but how do I activate them?

Also: How do I get the Configuration tab to turn up in the welcome screen? (like this: http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Image:Welcome.jpg)

I have tried to look around the forums and the wiki for answers, but I didn’t come across any...

What version of MODx are you running. Most of the documentation covers older versions and needs to be updated honestly, but with the changes coming in 097 we’re instead focusing on that.

OK, I see... I was thinking that there was something wrong with my installation, but I have never seen MODx before, so all I had to compare with was the documentation. But as I look closer in the wiki I see that the screenshots from MODx 0.9.5 look a lot like the ones I have in my MODx 0.9.6... So I guess I’m good to go!

Well, it was my first step and it works, so I have no complaints. It’s looking good, too! So now I just have to find my way around it. It’s a bit confusing, but I’ll check it out some more before I call for help again. But I guess I’ll have to ask more questions later...

There is only one thing: I glanced at the roadmap for 0.9.7, and it seems to be huge changes from 0.9.6. Will an upgrade be possible, or does one have to migrate the content to another installation? Is there a beta availible for 0.9.7? I know that it’s not polite to ask when, but are we talking days or months here? It seems as if it might be wise to wait...

097 should provide for a smooth migration from earlier sites ... more than days away but less than months on beta.

Nornen: yes the docs are a bit confusing with older versions and things in different places. I suffered at first as well. However if you DO read the manuals you will get a good idea of the principals ad then with a little creativity you will be able to figure out the new stuff since the docs.

Believe me, if you could figure out those other CMSs than you will love MODx.
