Menu excluding lots of top level pages

I want a menu similar to what I have been able to generate with this call: [!Wayfinder? &startId=`0`&hideSubMenus=`True`!]

BUT, I want to exclude most of the top level pages

using Wayfinder’s excludeDocs parameter is not practical because there are about 800 such pages to be excluded.

Is there any way I could either:
list the top level pages I wanted, or
exclude all pages using a particular template, or
otherwise mark pages as to be included or excluded?

I have thought of one work around, which is to do the top level pages manually and, below that, have separate navigation for each section (i.e. generated by [!Wayfinder? &startId=`x`&hideSubMenus=`True`!], where x is the ultimate parent of the current section.), but that is ugly and less consistent.

I would be grateful for either a way to do it, or suggestions for a better workaround.

The underlying problem is that the site started as a single section site (in fact it was a section I split from another site) with everything at the top level. Two years later, I find I want to add new sections to it.

Why don’t you just unclick the "show in menu" checkbox in the page settings of the pages you don’t want displayed?

If you’ve already created the 800 or so documents..you could use the doc manager > other properties to change that setting faster than a fast thing on a fast day...taking speed.

Maybe I’m missing something but hope that will help.

Because I am a stupid newbie who did not notice that option! Sorry.

Is it possible to make this the default?

I have yet to import the pages. I am going to have to write something to import some data I want in TVs, I should be able to set "show in menu" to false at the same time.

as to a way of defaulting it to NOT display the page, I have no idea...because I’m a newbie too.

I think the easiest way (as I mentioned) would be to simply import them as they are and then use the Doc Manager module to change the show in menu option to 0.
