MODx-newbie membership/affiliate program integration question

Hello everyone,

I just installed MODx yesterday and I’ve been playing around with it. I’m proficient in PHP/mySQL but I’ve never used a CMS before because I’ve never seen one that’s flexible enough. So far, I’m very impressed with MODx! I reviewed/demo’d every CMS on opensourcecms.com and none of the others seemed to come close to the level of flexibility I see here.

I want to use MODx (to begin with) to create a membership site that has an affiliate program. That is, anyone can pay to get access to the content, and anyone who wants to send traffic to the site can sign up for the affiliate program and be paid when their traffic results in signups (or other value-events). Affiliates and members are two different sets, and although they may overlap sometimes, they don’t have to (and it’s not expected that they often will). I’ve done some research prior to discovering MODx and determined that the following two systems are most useful for my purposes:

membership: aMember Professional (http://www.amember.com)
affiliate program: JROX Affiliate Manager (http://jam.jrox.com/)

Neither of them offer integration plugins for MODx, though aMember offers plugins for many others.

As I said, I’m very new to MODx. I don’t want to hack the core of any of these three programs to make them work together. Does anyone have any experience with integrating MODx with membership and/or affiliate programs? The two I mentioned are the ones I want to use, and it seems that I could probably make these work without any core hacking, but I thought it best to ask here before I get into it. I don’t want to spend a week getting familiar with MODx only to find that it can’t be done, so that’s why I’m asking.

Also, it’s my impression that MODx will be to version 1.0 sometime fairly soon. Does anyone have a timeframe in mind for that? Just asking, because 1.0’s featureset seems rather different from the current version.

Thanks again for all your hard work! I really want to use it and integrating these programs is the only issue I can see standing in my way at this point.

utz, have you continued to use modx and were you able to integrate an affiliate system? I have two websites on modx and will have more in the future. I’m ready to look at an affiliate system for one of my clients. Thanks for the link to JAM, that looks like a good product that could integrate fairly easily with modx. I’d love to hear of success stories!
