    Hi,

    Sorry the bad English.

I´m thinking building a website for my country, it´s a social network / wiki style, i will explain.

I want to make a site that people can register and insert touristic information, for example. I want to insert a beautiful lagoon with title, description, photos and Google map location.

This "post" will have voting and comments so that people can right stuff about this Lagoon.

The site will have category inside category with sub category, ex: Island nº1 > Location > Touristic Spots > Nature > Lagoons.

The category are fixed, only the admin can create category, but the users can insert information on these category’s. it´s like i say, it´s more a wiki style then a social network.

This is the project, and now is the question. I´m a web designer with 1% programing skills,

1# Is modx the best solution for me?
2# Will i have the change a lot of code?
3# modx has a cache system?
4# Can i build a form to users can register and insert information?
5# modx has multiple language suport?

P.S. - The site is 90% in drupal, but its an complicated cms, you can check here www.iloveazores.com user: iloveyou pass: iloveyou123
Can i make this site in modx ?

Tks and again, sorry for the bad English smiley

#1 is hard to answer; this depends on your priorities and goals for the site.
#2; likely you will need to write some custom components or have some written by a MODx-capable PHP developer. Many of the things you want to do will have pre-existing Extras to make it easier or give you a starting point, but a social-networking site with file uploads is not going to be something MODx provides out-of-the-box for you.
#3 Sure MODx has some caching, but you’ll have to be more specific about what kind of caching you are expecting before we can answer this accurately for your needs.
#4 Sure, Extras like WebLoginPE should be able to help fulfill this requirement, but depending on how you want it to work, there may be some custom programming involved.
#5 Sure there are several Extras available for MODx to support multi-lingual web sites, though what exactly this means in your requirements would need to be explored, especially since this is a site of user contributions you are building.

Drupal is likely going to have more modules available to make this happen without a developer, but being able to make it look like you want is going to be more of a challenge in Drupal than in MODx. But with 1% programming skills, the functionality you would need to develop in MODx might be more of a challenge. You might install and explore MODx to get a feel of what I’m trying to describe before deciding.
