Hy. As Newbie I have a very generic question and do not know where to look/start with.

I would like to make a web site where users could enter some data (like name, birth date etc.).

This data would then be loaded on a pre-existing OpenOffice Calc document that would compute the data. This calc document would run in a hidden mode from the user.

And then a summary report in three various formats (ods, xls and pdf) would be sent by mail to the user. The multi-format storing and mailing could be done by the calc spreadsheet macro, that already nows how to handle this.

Of course, I would have to find a service provider that could host all this = the website + Calc spreadsheet (I do not even know if that is possible).

Do you know if this is posible with modx ? Would you have any suggestion on the simplest way to do?

    Thanks a lot

You would need a php script/class that can work with the calc sheet. A quick google shows some hopeful possibilities.

After that you would need to convert this code to a snippet which may be as simple as copying and pasting or may need more work. Then use this snippet as a hook to one of the form snippets to process the data.

As for running a macro not sure if that is doable but if it can be done in php then it can be done in MODx. You may need to put the info into the sheet then extract the results to re-output to pdf etc..

As always with modx if it can be done there will prob be more ways to do it.

        Thanks Peetedley

I searched google with your pointers. The missing link seems to be the possibility to launch a calc macro from php, for wich I hav’ent found any solution yet after half a day googling.

Any other suggestion on this issue ?

Sorry no. If you had a script and needed help converting it to ModX then yes but I have no idea on running the macro.

Only thing I could suggest is my initial alternative
You may need to put the info into the sheet then extract the results to re-output to pdf etc..

Does this need to be done with an open office sheet or could you write all the calculations into PHP and do all the processing that way and then just output the results in the various ways you want IE.

          1) Get data.
          2) Process and calculate using PHP
          3) Write results into a sheet using one of the scripts
          4) Write to PDF using a PDF creation script
          5) Mail the results.
