    I sold some of the articles on my website with a contingency that I can leave them on my website with "no follow" tags so they are not picked up by search engines.

    I am the business owner - not a developer, and have not been able to figure out what I need to do in MOdX to add no follow tags on these articles. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Thank you!

      Best way to do this is to add the following between the <head></head> tags of your article:
      <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow" />

      However adding this directly to your template would mean the tag would show up on all articles - you don’t want that!

      Assuming you are using MODx Revolution, you could create a new TV with the following properties:

      • Name: noFollow
      • Caption: Hide from Search Engines?
      • Input Type: Check Box
      • Input Option Values: Hide==hide
      • Default Value: 0

      Assign the TV to your article template. Then in your template header:
      [[*noFollow:is=`hide`:then=`<meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow" />`]]

      The tag will only show up if it is checked in the manager.

        Thank you so much for your quick reply. Unfortunately, I’m thinking I’m in an older version of ModX - I don’t see anything in there called a TV. I have tried several other things, but nothing I’ve tried has worked.

        I am using:
        MODx version 0.9.6.1p2

        Here’s what I’ve already tried:
        I have unmarked the "searchable" box on each article
        I have added the <meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow" /> code directly into an article to test it
        I have added the same code into a template to test it
        I have even deleted an article

        In each instance, the article still shows up in search engine results.

        I have to have this done by Monday to be in compliance with my sales agreement. Can you recommend anyone who I could pay to help me with this?

        Thank you!

          Hello,

          You should start by upgrading to 1.0.5 to protect your site from hacking. If you need help doing that let me know. In regards to the original question, you can use robots.txt / meta to tell search engines you don’t want the page indexed, but that dosen’t mean automatic removal (or removal in general), as it’s still up to the search engine to respect your wishes.

          The easiest way to add the meta code would be using MetaX for Evolution, then you just uncheck searchable. The other method would be to use PHx and use a line like:

          [+phx:if=`[*noFollow*]`:is=`0`:else=`<meta name="robots" content="noindex, nofollow" />`+]

          Granted you may need to install PHx as it’s not included with Evolution by default.

          I hope that helps.
