Hi guys I’m trying run two copies of modx pointed at the same database for load balanced reasons, and what has happened is the server I want to use to manage the site does not fully load the /manager page and reports an error in the PHP log:

[15-Aug-2011 10:34:22] PHP Fatal error: Call to undefined function smarty_modifier_date_format() in \\<namechangedtoprotectheinnoncent>\D\WebData\paysim\public_html\core\cache\mgr\smarty\default\a2349d3e7458c7df0ed68b7928f426498576cd2a.file.welcome.tpl.php on line 38

Its like for some reason it can’t find the function, obviously.

This file, which appears to contain that function is there and readable.
    /core/model/smarty/plugins/modifier.date_format.php

Is there any way to disable the smarty plugin or find any additional information about this error?

Sorry in advance, I’m kind of a modx newb trying to help someone out.

    Thanks,
    Dan

As a bit of a side note, I’m running revolution 2.1.3 on windows ii7 with php and this was working fine until both copies of modx were set to read from the same database.

I’m sure modx is great, but my experience so far has been rather painful. Any suggestions will be welcome.

I do have a budget if someone can solve this.

          SOLVED.

The smarty template system doesn’t properly escape double backslashes for includes (perhaps it assumes they have already been escaped), so if your "physical path" is set to a unc path name in IIS 7+ then when modx/smart builds the cache for the CMS it can’t find the files its looking for, but doesn’t report that it fails the include. Instead it just dies unable to find a function.

The bug is in modx or smarty somewhere, because the string isn’t properly escaped, but a work around is to have your "physical path" in iis 7 to be set to local folder, which is then mapped to a network location.

          IE. d:\webroot\home versus \\server\d\webroot\home

This might sound like an odd configuration, but scaling into the cloud requires some weird shit sometimes.

Thanks for the persistance and followup on solving your own problem. Can you file a bug report for this at bugs.modx.com/projects/revo/issues so this gets addressed in an upcoming release?
