Hi all
I wanted to install Modx. But in installation summary page, i got this error:
Checking to make sure safe_mode is off: Failed!
I called my host provider to disable it. But they say for security reasons they can’t do it. So what should i do now? Someway to go away from safe_mode off?
thx
hi,
well, yes, but you’ll miss some important fonctionalities
if you install your website locally, transfert the file by ftp and then chmod the directories and files that need writing permissions you’ll have a working modx
too bad, you’ll not be able to create and use new directories through the file manager
in Revo case, you’ll not be able to use the packages upgrading abilities...
now, imho, i can understand your hoster not to set it to off by default (even if now...) but, not allowing you to overwrite the default config (for safe mode, magic quotes and register globals) with htaccess or a php.ini... i would change hoster without any hesitation...
have swing
réfléchir avant d'agir
I tried to change that by .htaccess, but i cant. And find out that they don’t allow me to override php.ini.
If, safe_mode be on, then you say that i only can’t use revo file manger? Or i can’t install new packages?
thx

The minimum requirements (
http://modx.com/revolution/developer/requirements/) note safe_mode should be turned off, failure to turn it off will more than likely cause a lot of functions to break or otherwise function improperly.
If you need a good hosting company check out Site5 or SkyToaster, both work great with MODX. If you need more in depth support SkyToaster can help you further than Site5.
