I am new to MODx, but very enthused over it.
I do not readily see how to fully get working existing external links to individual pages of my site.

There are external links like "mySite.com/secuirty/checklist.html" spread far & near, which I want to continue to work after I convert over to using a CMS (MODx in fact).
So far I’ve been able to convert pages into templates/chunks/documents. Very slick (& MVC-ing) as well as easy!
but I have only been able to get external links to work with the likes of "mySite.com/index.php?id=5"

So, step by step, specifically how do I set things up so that I’ll keep from breaking the existing links out there, elsewhere on the web, like "mySite.com/secuirty/checklist.html" ?

Currently I am pioneering this with XAMPP on my local PC.
I would like to know how with both MODx 1.0 & 2.0.

Your patience and any help will be greatly appreciated. Ron

Do you have Friendly URLs turned on and working?

      http://wiki.modxcms.com/index.php/Friendly_URLs_Guide

That should make those links work if the site structure hasn’t changed.

so lemme understand this you have other links that are not within the modx template and you do not want the friendly URL’s to affect them? If so just make it via a weblink and friendly url’s will not touch these.

If you want to enable friendly urls you can PM for any questions i just ended up reading a rack of info on this and the wiki page unfortunately is not up-to-date or correct which opengeek informed me when i had my headaches. I had some trouble understanding exactly what you were asking.

To enable friendly url’s you will only need to do

if modx is in a sub directory of your root html folder you will need to edit .htaccess. For instance angrygamers modx is installed in agx so I had to edit my .htaccess like so
        Options +FollowSymlinks
        RewriteEngine On
        RewriteBase /agx

it is also a good idea to have your header chunk to include the following line

        <base href="[(site_url)]"></base>

You only need to enable friendly_urls and friendly_alias_urls and rename the root ht.access to .htaccess. - opengeek

Again I am sorry if all this was un-needed I tried to answer as much as possible without understanding exactly you were looking for.
