    Hi all,

Im developing a website that contains large audios and videos which will be about 500 in number. This will be reducing the speed performance of the website... Is there a better way to handle it so that the speed of the website is not affected?

Your answers would be highly appreciated!

    Regards
    Raina

It’s not really the speed of the website (or MODx) that’s in question here, more of the ability of your server to hold up under a heavy load.

I think it’s really a hosting decision you need to make. You’re going to have to find a server or content delivery network that’s fast enough to deliver your media without bogging down. Have a chat with a few hosting providers to see what options are available and what they recommend. I was speaking with the nice people at MediaTemple the other day - they’ve some very reasonable packages and their service is second to none.

If you are serving the files directly there will be no performance impact, as serving static files can be done without invoking php.

You will have more of a performance impact with 500 pages than 500 files imo, negating the need for a different hosting company. Granted that does depend somewhat on your current hosting company, and server configuration.

Personally I would not recommend MediaTemple, I have spend several days working on a DV server trying to get MODX to run properly, as DV servers are unmanaged, they will not provide you with any support in adjusting the configuration to function properly.
