    Hi,

I’m having a bit of trouble get links towork properly on our MODx site. It’s probably a configuration issue, but I’ve been away from the project for a while and not sure if it’s something I’ve done.

Here’s the problem: Some of the links on the site are getting wrapped in quotes. So for example if through the TinyMCE editor, I create a link that should point to:
    http://www.foo.com/directory/somepage.html

    What actually gets written is:
    http://www.foo.com"/directory/somepage.html/"

It doesn’t matter if I use the link browser interface of TinyMCE or put the href="[~xx~]" code directly into the HTML editor, the quotes get added regardless. Most of the pages added over a couple of months ago work fine, but any new links as well as some created in the last couple of weeks seem to have the problem. I suspect I did something stupid the last time I logged in, but I can’t for the life of me figure out what I did wrong.

    Any hints?

    Thanks,
    Gary

A couple of thoughts, sometimes called stabs in the dark!
If this only started happening recently what changed?
Looks like you have a very recent PHP version so maybe the server got upgraded and there is some security setting escaping the link with double quotes.
Or, what happens if you turn the RTE off altogether, does that solve the problem?

        Hey Bunk,

Thanks for your help. I’ll work through your suggestions with you.

I feel like an a**, but to be honest, it could be something I did last time I was spending any real time on the site (sometime before my holidays). I was trying to get the file browser to work in the RTE. I had flipped a couple of settings, but I thought I put everything back before logging off. Weeks later, I can’t remember what settings I messed with ... doh!

My hosting is on HostPapa, and they periodically update services, so I’m not sure ... is there something I should check?

Ah at last something I can answer! Disabling TinyMCE, FCKEditor, and KCEditor makes no difference. Even when I add the HTML manually, the code, when saved, seems to escape the quote marks in the <a> tag.

        Any other ideas?

        Thanks again for your help,
        Gary

Huh, it wasn’t my fault after all. Bunk pointed me in the right direction. A recent update to PHP on the servers, so I had to add a php.ini file to a couple of directories turning off magic quotes.

          Problem solved. Thanks to all.

          Cheers,
          Gary
