How to reset MODx Revolution Traditional password by hand? What hash function to use? How to apply salt? UPD: more generally, what do I do if I locked myself out of the manager?

click on "Forgot your Login?" huh???

So if you can’t do that - maybe because it is a local development site with no email service - you need to edit the password in the database

      So: on another install -
create a user with a simple password - say 11223344
in the modx_user table retrieve the password (after it has gone through all that hash/salt stuff) - mine was: d54d1702ad0f8326224b817c796763c9
paste this into the modx_user password in the database for the install that you are locked out of

login with new password (while you are looking at the database check on your username in case that is really what you forgot - been there!)

Note the password and the hashed value above may not work - better to create your own as explained with the same version of modx

Importing a user from another installation didn’t work. I used a fresh installation of the same version (Revo Tr. 2.1.0), and I could login into THAT, but importing a user didn’t help me login into the installation I locked myself out of. What else could go wrong so that logging in would become impossible? Or rather, it did work, I just forgot to create a DB user when I was moving the damn thing sad

          Edit:
this post makes less sense now that the post before it has been completely changed -
so this is how to change a password to password in Revo 2.1 without access to the manager (confirmed to work with 2.1.0 rc4)
One would probably want to reset the hashing_class, recreate the salt + password - left an excercise for the reader!
On with the original post which has had the first 2 words struck:

I think you can (in the database)
          set the password to 5f4dcc3b5aa765d61d8327deb882cf99
          delete the salt
set the hash_class to hashing.modMD5 (this is what it used to be before the salting stuff was added)

then log in with password = password

I tried it on a 2.1.0 rc4 install I have and it worked
