I moved the files and recreated the db of my modx evolution site on my local mamp server with the goal of updating to evolution 1.0.5

However, I cannot get the 1.0.2 site running on mamp. I get all kinds of php and database errors (even though i changed the config.ini.php file info to local root root). Is there a how to guide for moving from a live site to local mamp server?

It works the same as any site move. Are you sure that your MAMP installation is installed and working correctly? Does the MAMP home page work, and the phpinfo and phpMyAdmin links all work? Are you sure you created the new database with the same name as the old one?

Log out of the old manager before doing anything, and make sure your browser cache is cleared.

Try installing 1.0.5, then use phpMyAdmin to export your old database and import it to the new one, then run the installer again in update mode.

You’ll also need to copy over your template files and any images or other files you have added to the old site.

It certainly doesn’t work "like any other site move" becuase the db info is stored in different place for all different cms’s My installation of mamp is current and i have several wordpress and codeigniter sites running on it.

I installed a evo 1.0.5 on mamp since my first post and that works fine too. I really want to get the old site running on mamp though so i can run the update on it, make sure everything is ok THEN move it live. The old site is massive and heavily modified so simply copying over the db and files you mentioned won’t work, something will get missed.

Doesn’t modx have documentation on migrating a live site to mamp (or any local server)? I need to know where the db and site url’s are stored in the file and db.

        thanks.

Simply moving the site files and importing a database dump should work fine; the only things you need to do are edit the database info in the manager/includes/config.inc.php file as appropriate (localhost - root - root - dbname - table prefix), then in the Configuration change the paths in the Interface and Features tab (for the Rich Text editor’s resource browser) and the File Manager tab (for the Manager’s File Manager). I did once have some permission problems when importing a site from a dedicated server with odd permission settings, but that was easily enough fixed.

You’ll probably be installing it in a subdirectory off the htdocs directory, so you’ll also need to edit the .htaccess file to set the RewriteBase to /the-directory-name to get friendly URLs working.

Before you move things, clear the site cache and clear the system events and manager actions logs, and if this is a really old site also truncate the various visitor logging tables (newer versions don’t have these at all).

However, if by "heavily modified" you mean that your core files are modified there is no clear upgrade path.
