For the intranet that we want to set up, we need to keep a log of all users activities. When they login, where they navigate to, which document they download, etc...

This feature is lacking in many CMS. Many CMS just have basic system event log. I don’t think Joomla has it at all. Drupal has an add-on module for Activity Log. What about MODx ?

In MODx’s roadmap there is an entry: Core logging – Provides various error levels and output targets including ECHO, HTML, and FILE. You can also use it in add-ons for audit logs, error logs, debugging, or other logging needs. I wonder if this is what I am looking for in upcoming Revolution? That means there is no logging in Evolution 1.0 ?

Only rudimentary logging in Evo, and a logging Add-on would need to be developed for Revo.

The modx_active_users table has some rudimentary logging with manger user IDs as positive and web user IDs as negative integers; the modx_manager_log also keeps track of manager activities.

There was extensive logging originally, but it caused a lot more trouble for most users than it was worth and was removed years ago. Most people who want logging now use a plugin for custom logging.
