When clicked on an empty link throws me to the home page ... how to be and what to do?

Your javascript onclick function needs to return false to stop normal browser handling of a click on a link. If the link click is processed by the browser, it’s an invalid link so the 404 page will be displayed (in MODx that’s resource #1 by default).

That has nothing at all to do with MODx. It’s strictly up to your Javascript to handle it.
