Kinda a modx newb here, though I’ve built a couple of sites already.
Biggest complaint I have is from a clients point of view. Just a "for instance"...
Using Revo... Let’s say I have a slider on my front page, and I want the client to be able to change out the pictures... I know how to set that up with the document tree and setting up a ’slider folder’ and then any document in the slider folder gets added to the slider, etc...
But is there an easy way to add some sort of custom backend to manage something like that, or anything else for that matter? Or for someone like me who’s not a programmer, do I just wait for a module to be released, or worse yet go to Wordpress?
As a themer, Modx is brilliant. Trying to make the client experience equally brilliant, for me, has been a struggle. Any tips/pointers?
Thanks
Chris
You can try to use the MIGX-TV-input-type for sliders. Probably the easiest way for your client to add, edit, remove, sort records for sliders and that stuff.

When you say slider what exactly do you mean? A image gallery with a slider? Sorry, I’m not trying to be funny here just trying to understand what you want to accomplish and see if I can help
Cool, thanks, the MIGX TV sounds about as close as I’m gonna get.
To clarify, I was just giving a slider as an example... something like a Nivo Slider, or Coda Slider, whatever you want to call it where one image fades or slides into another image, seen mostly as ’showcases’ on the front pages of TONS of sites.
I’m just looking for creative ways to make Modx as dummy-proof as possible.

Why not use the gallery plugin? That’s what I used for
this thats pretty straight forward for clients as long as you give them detailed instruction with screenshots of what they should do.
Hope that’s helpful.
I have actually had a client I had to do a similar thing for. We have to remember that the more detailed we have to be, the more scared the client gets they’re gonna screw up their site. Especially those with no HTML experience. I used a simple js script called "Cycle" which just faded between whatever images were found in a ’div’ you pointed to. In my case I had a div with an ID of banner containing three TV’s with ifempty="" attached. On the homepage template I had six TV’s, three with inputs of image, and three for filling in the alt. All the client had to do is browse for the images and fill in their descriptions for accessibility. If there was only one, nothing happened, but once they added more it automatically fades. I could have probably done it differently but hey I thought it worked, and it was pretty easy.
