    Hi All:

I wanted to get an opinion on the best way to handle the concept of a "staging" and "live" version of a REVO installation. I’m basically referring to an area where a content editor or internal staff can modify/add/delete content and assets without affecting their live website - and synchronize the two when they are ready. With EVO - I always setup two separate sites; one called staging.domain.com and a live site at www.domain.com. The staging site had the manager login (I rename the manager/index.php on the live site) - and I wrote a custom module that effectively rsync’s the assets folder from the staging to live, and mysqldump the database and restore it to the live site. The live config file points to the live database. There are a few drawbacks to this approach and a few technical tricks I’ve had to use to make it work - but it does work.

    So my questions are:

    1. Is there anything inherently built into REVO that can accomplish this same set of goals?
    2. Is there a proven technique or component that can accomplish this?

I would appreciate any and all feedback! I’m about to embark on my first big REVO project and this is something the client definitely wants to have. I’m enjoying REVO very much and if I can come up with some ideas and best-practices - I’d be willing to develop this into a component for others to use.

    Thanks everyone!

You could have a look at Provisioner http://modx.com/extras/package/provisioner, its not really meant for this especially as a workflow but it may give you some ideas.
Use MODx, or the cat gets it!

Thank you Shamblett! This looks encouraging. Where do I find revogateway.zip?

Its in github, https://github.com/shamblett/provisoner, you may have to clone the repo to get at it, note you don’t need this unless you are importing data from an evo site into your revo installation, revo to revo works without it.
