I just had my new site go live, it is replacing an old site with an almost identical structure. The problem I am having is that the cache is mixing some of the files from the old site with files from the new one and making the site look awful until you refresh it. Obviously, people don’t know they have to delete cache or refresh especially if they are new to the site.

Is there a way to make them recache the site? Just once or something I can put up and take down after a week.

If you used the same css path/filename as the old site, it is likely this is what is being retained on the client browsers. You can change the name of the css file to avoid the problem. Similar issues could be occurring with other external files, .js files for instance.

Yeah, its all the same files, just different code inside. I think only the CSS file is giving me problems though.

At this point I think the damage is already done, but I’ll keep it in mind next time I launch a site. (I really need to read up how to do it properly)

You can rename the CSS file now, change the link in your template header( s ) and the users will get the new CSS automatically. It’s not too late...
