Hey Guys,
Im running Modx Revo, and Evo on different sites on the same server.
Revo is running really slow. Yet evo quite fast.
The site on Revo is starting to use more intensive things like phpThumbof.
When you type in the domain the slowness is coming from Waiting to connect to "domain.com"
Ping shows this connecting is taking up to 10 seconds on the revo site, and less than 1 on the evo site.
The environment is Mediatemple Grid.
Is there something with Modx Revolution caching that is making it slow? Do i need more / dedicated memory resources with revolution?
Any guidance on what you think the causes/solutions might be would be appreciated.

The MediaTemple Grid servers have some major issues with MODX Revolution in my experience. I’ve moved several clients off their servers due to performance issues and frequent database corruption. I would highly recommend using another hosting company if you wish to run Revolution sites based on my experience with MT.
That being said you can check that all forms of caching are enabled in the system settings, which should help a little.
You can also go to Reports -> System Info -> Database Tables tab and optimize the tables periodically as described at the top of that page.
Hi Guys,
Thanks for all the Info.
I used Executioner and found that getResources + phpThumbof was taking 11 - 15 seconds to execute.
This is clearly what is causing the slow response.
Will investigate the alternate PHPthumb solution.
Do you think moving to a more powerful Box with more RAM will make that process execute faster?

I’m glad to hear you were able to figure out the problem!
A more powerful box may help, but keep in mind, you’re connecting to a separate DB server, so there will always be some lag involved. I would think the biggest help would actually be having the web and database on the same server. Granted how much ram do you have currently?
Im Currently on Media temples Grid.
I haven’t activated a grid container, which you can do to get ram allocated just for your database server. I could activate 128MB ram to the databases.
My Other options in the coming weeks would be to migrate to Hostgator VPS or Rackspace Cloud.
Will have to research the architecture of rackspace cloud, and if your ram allocation is allocated to database server.
