    hi, if i export the database via phymyadmin and restored to a new test database would that make sense to do?, so that i can do some testing. I presume that there is a config file where the database name and login etc is stored. I recall entering those details during installation.

      Yes, you can import the .sql file from the original database. Which version of MODx? Evo and Revo have the database config info in different places.

        It is evolution. the original database is named ’modx’, and the new empty one i have named modxcopy; I have viewed the imported sql

        I noticed this line

        CREATE DATABASE `modx` DEFAULT CHARACTER SET latin1 COLLATE latin1_swedish_ci;
        USE `modx`;

        I am pretty sure i should change modx to modxcopy, apart from this change do you think the sql will run as expected , i.e is there any other changes I might need to make to the sql do you think. Many thanks for your help.

          Doesn’t really matter; create your new database with whatever name you want (make sure it’s got the same character set and collation), then import the tables.

          You’ll need to edit the manager/includes/config.inc.php file to correct the database name, user name and password.
