I’m trying to wrap my head around ExtJS and I’m having a hell of a time... jQuery makes sense to me for the limited number of things I need to do to build an interface, but building a MODx friendly CMP using ExtJS is proving challenging. It’d be awesome if someone put together a simple punch list of how to do simple interface-type things, e.g.

    1. Add HTML dynamically to a given div in your CMP
    2. Delete a div
    3. launch a modal window
    4. write information back to the main page from the modal window
    5. launch an AJAX request to an outside controller

That would be a very useful little toolbox to know how to do those things inside of MODx. It would also be great to have a brief rundown of the CSS hooks at work in the manager with simplified examples. I’m starting to deconstruct this, and it’s not easy. It’s like teaching someone how to write HTML, you don’t start by dissecting yahoo.com’s email system (that is COMPLICATED), you instead start by dissecting someone’s 4th grade GeoCities site (hehehe... remember GeoCities?).

    Thanks, as always.

      Hi @Everett

I am glad I am not the only one battling with ExtJs.
I have been looking at ExtJS 4 videos on their site.
      Seems great. But to undrestand.
I can sort of understand JQuery and YUI3 laugh

@lossendale seems the man who is knowledgeable in this field. He claimed better docs than YUI. Looking round did not find much on the web modX seems to have better tutorials for me than ExtJS.

Hope this does not close your post as the last couple of times I have posted that post has just died. Maybe I’m a post killer grin

I’m no help here since ExtJS is largely baffling to me too, but I’ll help keep the thread alive. wink

Wow! I am by no means an extjs master, i can assure you.

That being said, i’ve worked with it several times and built many applications with it, and therefore has confortable with it has i am with jQuery.
Honestly, the best way to learn it is to load the example provided with the library and test, reproduce and ultimately, extend them.

Then, once you want to do anything, you have to refer to the API. There are less example than YUI but better API exposition (imo).

What’s difficult with MODExt is that all the components are wrapped within classes, and you need to know how to work with ext classes to use the components.
But it’s possible to also just load Extjs outside of MODx, and just run the example code provided with ExtJS in modx manager.

I’ll try to find some nice tutorial tomorrow, but i can’t garanty them to be geared toward beginners in javascript.

Note that i have learn many things directly from Sencha website:

And a couple of link that were useful to me:
