Modx 2.0.8
MySqL : 5.0.45
PHP : 5.3
Server : Apache
OS : Linux
I got this error message when try to installing MODx Revolution 2.0.8
FATAL ERROR: MODx Setup cannot continue.
Make sure your /var/www/sites/productionimagine/core/cache directory exists and is writable by the PHP process.
The directory "cache" has the following permissions 775, I changed the permissions to 777 and I could access the first page of the installation process.
But I have not done the installation, because I never had to change permissions for subsequent installations of MODx and I wanted to avoid other similar glitches (on other directories) or worse during the installation.
I wrote to the host about this problem and here is what he said :
« You should set the permissions 777 on all the directories where your PHP script must be able to write. PHP on our servers is configured as an apache module. Even if you give write permission to everyone, this does not pose a security risk because of another security feature on the server (such open_basedir) prevents other users to write in your folder. »
1) I would like to know if it’s true that the solution of the host is a safe solution?
2) What are the directories that I need to set permissions to 777 before starting the installation of MODx?
Thank you very much
